A bottle of Raya cookies

Raya celebration is just around the corner, campus getting quiet as everyone going back to their hometown. Me? How I wish can fly back to Sabah too. Well it is not really the matter. I enjoy watching this drama, I mean the ‘balik kampung’ scene, I’ve been watching it for past two years already, and this year’s scene is actually my very last scene.

Talking bout Raya celebration, as what I’ve done for the past two years, I’ll knocked every doors that belong to my lecturers and wish them. My common and very typical wish is “Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir & Batin” They usually will laugh when I said that phrase. I’m glad to see their happy faces.

This year I did the same thing too. I went to see few lecturers and wish them. However, this time around something unexpected happened. For the first time ever a lecturer gave me a bottle of Raya cookies. I’m speechless. I know, it just Raya cookies anyway right, but it is really something precious to me.

Talking about those Raya cookies, I wanted to share a little bit about the giver. Well she is one of our lecturers at FOMT. She joined UiTM when I was in 2nd semester (Jan-May, 2007). She teaches Customer Service subjects. My first impression bout her was what a beautiful person. I first thought that she was single; however, she is a mother of two wonderful children. She really has an international model looks.

When I was in my 3rd semester, I took Customer Service Principles subject for my elective. This is when I officially became her student. To be honest, she is the only lecturer that can easily make me understand on the messages that she tried to deliver. The rest, I could say that I was pretending. Yet, I work on my own to get it clear.

After two semesters goes by, I never though that she will still treat me as the same. She always knows how to make me love her. I really thank her for her times and efforts to listened and ‘entertained’ me every time I knocked her door.

I know she may not read this post, but I just like to share the good feelings I have today with the rest of the world. I thank you once again for the cookies, and I do pray that God will always be there for you and guide you in everything you do. Thank you Pn. Rahayu Hasanordin.

OMG, I can’t get married!

Wanted to bask out my cloths, but It’s raining outside.

So, I jump to my next plan which is rearranging my certificates folder.

I saw my Baptism & First Holy Communion cert inside it. As I look through the folder, I felt something is missing. Yes. Where is my Confirmation cert? I lost my Confirmation cert. (I think so)

I still remember my Sunday school teacher told me last time “Simpan baik-baik semua tu sijil, nanti si Fr. tidak kasi kawin kau kalu teda semua tu sijil masa kau daftar kawin nanti.”

Bangsa Malaysia

Saban hari isu-isu seperti politik, rasuah, peralihan dan perebutan kuasa dikalangan pemimpin dan sebagainya semakin menjadi hal yang menyesakkan halwa pendengaran kita.

Setelah 51 tahun Malaysia mencapai kemerdekaan namun, kematangan belum lagi selari dengan usia emasnya. Kenyataan inilah yang menjadi kegusaran saya. Semakin melewati usia yang unggul, semakin bertubi-tubi kepincangan yang timbul.

Kelmarin saya telah pun mengalihkan buah minda saya yang bertajuk ‘Languages’ atau dalam Bahasa Malaysia bermaksud ‘Bahasa-bahasa’ ke dalam bentuk tulisan elektronik dan dimuatkan ke dalam blog ini.

Terima kasih saya ucapkan kepada para pembaca yang terdiri daripada ahli keluarga serta kawan-kawan yang menyumbangkan komen-komen yang bernas dan juga berkongsi pendapat berhubung tajuk tersebut. Hal ini mendorong saya untuk mengupas dengan lebih lanjut mengenai hal ‘Bangsa Malaysia’ berdasarkan perspektif saya sendiri tanpa bersandar kepada mana-mana pihak (kecuali dari segi definisi) mahupun menimbulkan ketidakselesaan pihak-pihak lain. Jauh sekali untuk bersifat perkauman ataupun berat sebelah, kupasan ini hanya sekadar perkongsian dan mungkin perlu dipandang serius oleh pihak yang berkenaan.

Menurut Shamsul Amri Baharuddin (ketua editor), dalam buku bertajuk Modul Hubungan Etnik, Bangsa Malaysia merujuk kepada satu cita-cita politik, seperti yang diungkapkan dalam Wawasan 2020. Menurut beliau lagi. melalui Wawasan 2020 ini para pemimpin Malaysia bersama-sama masyarakatnya telah menggariskan cita-cita untuk menjadikan Malaysia sebuah negara maju menjelang tahun 2020 yang berasaskan satu bangsa bersepadu, yang dikenali sebagai Bangsa Malaysia. Dari sudut yang lain pula, Bangsa Malaysia merupakan satu “Bangsa Idaman” yang kita kehendaki, yang berteraskan hubungan etnik yang harmonis.

Penjelasan beliau berhubung Bangsa Malaysia turut mengundang persoalan di kota fikiran saya iaitu sejauh mana kebenarannya mengenai ‘Bangsa Idaman yang kita kehendaki’? Adakah benar ini yang dikehendaki oleh Masyarakat berbilang kaum di Malaysia? Bukan berniat untuk menpersoalkan definisi yang beliau utarakan. Hanya sekadar perjelasan yang mungkin perlu dikaji semula penggunaan ayatnya.

Turut dimuatkan ialah mengenai tiga perspektif utama yang dijadikan ukuran kepada pembentukan Bangsa Malaysia iaitu Kenegaraan, Kewarganegaraan dan Kebangsaan. Ketiga-tiga aspek ini boleh diterapkan melalui lagu kebangsaan misalnya, kewarganegaraan Malaysia dan kubudayaan Kebangsaan. Namun, hakikatnya perlaksanaan in agak sinis sambutannya walaupun tampak beberapa kejayaan besar.

Berbalik kepada usul utama saya, Bangsa Malaysia, tidak dinafikan bahawa begitu banyak pendekatan yang telah ambil oleh pihak yang berkaitan untuk merialisasikan cita-cita pilitik ini antara lain ialah mewajibkan subjek Sejarah di peringkat menengah dan subjek Hubungan Etnik di semua Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (IPT) dalam Malaysia. Mungkin pada asasnya, para penuntut digalaskan dengan harapan bahawa dengan mempelajari subjek ini, kepekaan terhadap etnik-etnik lain akan menebal dalam sanubari, namun hakikat yang jelas, kebanyakkan penuntut mengambil sikap acuh tak acuh terhadap matapelajaran ini apatah lagi subjek ini hanya subjek sampingan yang pada hemat mereka tidak perlu diberi perhatian yang serius. Persoalannya, sejauh manakah subjek ini berjaya memupuk semangat ‘hubungan antara etnik’ bagi menjayakan Bangsa Malaysia dikalangan penuntut di seluruh IPT di Malaysia?

Saya sangat bersetuju dengan cadagan-cadagan yang dikongsikan menerusi maklum balas yang telah saya terima. Antara lain metitikberatkan beberapa penerapan ringkas bagi membolehkan impian ini menjadi realiti, antaranya;

1. Kita perlu menghormati kepelbagaian latarbelakang rakyat Malaysia.

2. Kita perlu menghormati kepelbagaian bangsa dan agama yang wujud di Malaysia.

3. Jangan sesekali mengklasifikasikan seseorang berdasarkan rupa.

4. Mempelajari dan memahami sejarah Malaysia adalah asas yang perlu diperkukuhkan.

Namun, bagaimana penerapan diatas dapat dilaksanakan jika wujud jurang sosial yang tinggi dikalangan raykat Malaysia di Semenanjung dan di Sabah dan Serawak? Yang pada hakikatnya jurang geografi sudah pun wujud! Mungkin beberapa perkara berikut perlu direnung kembali dan diambil iktibar daripadanya oleh pihak-pihak yang suka mencetuskan persenggetaan antara kaum di Malaysia.

1. Seorang sahabat dari Semenanjung Malaysia tanpa segan-silu mengeluarkan pendapat yang berbunyi “Most Sabahan & Sarawakian came here (peninsular) for their university education just because they are fulfilling their quota as Bumis”

2. Gurauan yang bernada sindiran “Orang-orang Sabah masih tinggal kat atas pokok ke?” “Korang mai sini naik sampan eh?”

3. Jurujual tidak ingin menerima kad diskaun hanya kerana terbaca perkataan Sabah di atas kad tersebut. Jurujual itu dengan yakin berkata “But it’s only for local, Sabah is not Malaysia”

Pada pendapat anda, bukan kah ini bakal mencetuskan kemarahan kaum-kaum yang terlibat? Sudah terang lagikan bersuluh!

Bak kata pepatah, takkan pisang berbuah dua kali. Begitu la juga yang diharapkan oleh segenap lapisan masyarakat Malaysia berhubung isu 13 Mei. Sudah pasti saya sendiri tidak ingin hal itu berulang lagi, namun jika dibiarkan segelintir pencemar keharmonian masyarakat ini terus berleluasa melontarkan kata-kata mereka tanpa memikirkan kesannya, sudah pasti kita semua dapat menduga kemungkinan yang bakal terjadi.

Saya sangat berasa selamat jika berada di tanah kelahiran saya (Sabah) ini kerana sifat perkauman di Sabah hampir tiada ruang untuk wujud. Baik yang bragama Islam mahupun Kristian, Buddha dan sebagainya, kami masih mampu duduk semeja untuk menikmati secawan kopi panas. Hal ini tidak terlihat dimata saya wujud di Semenanjung Malaysia. Saya juga sangat menghormati kawan-kawan dari Semenanjung Malaysia yang datang berhijah ke Sabah kerana keikhlasan hati mereka untuk menerima budaya yang wujud di sana. Namun, saya belum pernah menerima layanan yang sama sebagai rakyat Malaysia sejak berhijrah ke Semenanjung Malaysia. Suka juga saya nyatakan disini bahawa pendapat yang menyatakan bahawa tidak semua orang Semenanjung bersifat sedemikian adalah benar. Terdapat sebilangan kecil yang tahu menghormati orang lain dan peka terhadap kepelbagaian kaum yang wujud di Malaysia. (Syabas saya ucapkan kepada golongan ini)

Untuk merialisasikan Bangsa Malaysia, kepentingan semua kaum di Malaysia perlu diambil kira. Setiap lapisan masyarakat Malaysia perlu belajar untuk bertolak ansur dan menghormati masyarakat lain, atau dalam erti kata lain perlu ada sensitiviti terhadap kaum-kaum lain. Pelbagai perkara perlu dikaji semula terutamanya sikap dan mentaliti masyarakat sedia ada baik di Semananjung Malaysia mahupun di Sabah dan Sarawak agar tidak menjadi kekangan kepada hasrat murni ini.

Kesimpulanya, terpulang pada rakyat Malaysia sendiri untuk merialisasikan Bangsa Malaysia ini ataupun membiarkan sahaja usaha ini terkubur tanpa nisan.

Languages

I was so impressed with the uniqueness of languages especially among Sabahan & Sarawakian.

When I first come to Shah Alam for my degree, I was looking eagerly for at least Sabahan faces. I found no one at the first place!

Along the week of my orientation, I really have a very tough time with my new peninsular friends.

They don’t understand me! I am using Bahasa Malaysia! (Which I can consider most Sabahan can speak it in ‘Bahasa Baku’)

So they leave me with no choice, I’ve to speak English. Yet, they don’t understand me! U see, I’m not so good with my English too, but still they can’t understand even the simplest words I used! (So you want me to speak in Tatana? Or Mandarin maybe) Phew!!!!

I was really so called frustrated that time. Luckily, at the end of my orientation week I saw few familiar Sabahan faces.

I’m not racist or what-so-ever here! U know, back in Sabah & Sarawak there are maybe more than hundred types of languages, but when they communicate with others (especially non Sabahan & non Sarawakian) they will try their best to use proper Bahasa Malaysia at least, which I personally think peoples here are fail to do so!

There is an advertisement concerning to the 51st Merdeka Celebration by Maybank using the Iban languages (If I’m not mistaken) u know, these peoples here are really make fun of it. Even if I’m not Sarawakian, they really makes me high blood (my jargon for angry) They never respect others languages!

We will definitely fail to accomplish our “Bangsa Malaysia” (in language context) if;

• You don’t know how to use proper Bahasa Malaysia at least and,
• You don’t respect others languages

It’s fasting month, none of my friends willing to go anyway on weekdays especially.

However, because of my roommate (Aju) wanted so much to buy the new watch for her Hari Raya, so we can’t resist from going out yesterday.

We called a cab (cab 1), and the Pak Cik sent us to our first destination which is PKNS. Its cost us RM10 for 6 peoples from our hostel, Kolej Kenanga.

This was the place where my roommate saw the watch, without wasting her time, she rushes to get her favourite one. Ibu, Along & Fara were so busy to get themselves a pair of sandal too. I followed Rezah to find a chasuble for her sister. I was almost fainted cuz so many peoples who were looking for ‘Baju Raya’ there. *I can’t stand with crowed place* But the cookies save me...

Before we move to our second destination, we first stopped at ‘Bazar Ramadhan’ behind PKNS to buy some ‘kuih’. Can you see all those kuih…

Ibu wanted so much to buy new ‘tudung’ here also for her Hari Raya, but she got none. Rezah & Along were never fail to get themselves few new pair of T-shirts at Optimo. I bought cooler fan, my shower gel, dry toasted bread & a fancy notebook for myself. (Wanted to buy the cooler fan for so long actually!)

Thai Fusion Steamboat Restaurant

We came here for ‘buka puasa’. Luckily, we still got place to sit. The restaurant always fully book when it comes to Ramadhan. Here were the foods that we had yesterday. (The picture of our drinks were not originally from my camera, I goggled it cuz the real one was not so nice) Fara & me tapau chicken chop too cuz got 30% less.

We called the same cab again to go back to our hostel, while waiting few pictures taken. Us (the peoples behind the story & the nite scenery of Shah Alam)

Missing home so badly

I was rearranging my photo folders when I saw few photos taken not long time ago.
It is a pictures of my very big family (we like taking pictures for every family occasion we have)… my tears dropped when I look at it.
Really miss being at home with them and with my parents of course…

Everybody will gather again in the house to celebrate the 5th death anniversary of our grandpa on this coming Sept 28… *feel so empty for not able to be there*
How I wish I could be there with them,…lend my helping hands, share jokes, say prayers together…

I really hate the idea of giving me a last minute assignment.

With 35 multiple-choice questions and 5 essays, submit Friday morning, 10.30am (Sept 12, 2008) and tremendously hard!
